A sluice is a water channel that is controlled at its head by a gate. A sluice gate is traditionally a metal plate that slides in grooves in the sides of the channel. Sluice gates are commonly used to control water levels and flow rates in rivers and canals. They are also used in wastewater treatment plants and to recover minerals in mining operations, and in watermills.
Sluice Gates are primarily meant for use in water supply and waste water applications such as water filtration and purification works, intake wells, pumping stations, drainage and irrigation canals, water & sewage treatment plants, flood control, thermal power stations and water-cooling plants, etc requiring flow control or shut off. These gates may also used for industrial waste water & with other fluids with stability.
There are many types of Sluice Gates in application. Most commonly used Sluice Gates are Vertically Operated Sluice Gates. Three types of Vertically Operated Sluice Gates are in use most commonly.

Wall Mounted Sluice Gates are Suitable for direct Wall Mounting. As all Gates are custom built, provisions could be made to install the Gate with puddle pipe flange. In most common practice these gates are installed in window space on a wall. Provisions could be made to design the Sluice Gate without the spigot back and make it flat faced, as per the site conditions. Normally it comes with square /rectangle /circular spigot at its back, for the civil installation purpose. Allows four side sealing, and absolute zero leakage could be guaranteed.

Thimble Mounted Sluice Gate constituted by mainly two parts. The Thimble and the Main Sluice. The Thimble part is for the installation in the window space at the wall and the Main Gate is installed with The Thimble. For future replacement, it is much easier to handle, as there is no extensive civil work involved. Just the Sluice Gate part could be replaced without disturbing the already installed Thimble within the civil construction. Allows four side sealing and absolute zero leakage could be guaranteed.

Open Chanel Type Sluice Gate are specifically designed for Canals or Drains. The purpose is, to close the discharge point, as in practical occasions the discharge point could act like an inlet, in case the external water level becomes higher than the internal water level. In such situation, back flow is obvious. It is applied to discard the possibility of this back flow. There is another purpose, to control the outflow of the discharge, thereby controlling the pollution. Allows three side sealing and absolute zero leakage could be guaranteed.
